Food Fight aka Shokugeki No Soma
So last year I was online, on Facebook mind you, watching one of those short videos. You know the one. The one where your friends post, pointing towards some emotion or action that everyone has. I think this one was saying “your reaction when the food is that bomb”. In the video this woman takes a taste of this food and immediately in her mind all her clothes rip off and she sounds like she’s climaxing, sorry to the young readers. Well I was curious what this was. It was clearly anime. It was clear, that it had to be something dirty. I was deathly intrigued. Well i searched and searched and searched. To my luck, the show had not premiered yet. The show was known as Shokugeki no Soma. The series, created by Yuto Tsukuda with art by Shun Saeki along with collaborator Yuki Morisaki, was created in 2012 with initial publishing in Weekly Shonen Jump in November of that year. The series follows Yukihara Soma as he journeys thru school life at the prestigious Totsuki Academy. He is a first year along with other first years, like Nakiri Erina and Tadokoro Megumi, trying to become elite chefs. Soma was raised by his father in his family’s restaurant. They would do fighting competitions there for the entertainment of the patrons, which Soma never one. Which would get you thinking because at Totsuki they have a Shokugeki or Food War, similar to the cooking battles you see on tv, to resolve disagreements at the school. This series, for me, was amazing. It had gotten to the point where with friends I made it my life to get people to watch. A friend of mine got so into it he would jazz up his recipes, like Soma would, and text me with the hashtag Shokugeki. The cool part is the collaborator Morisaki is a real chef. So each and everything cooked in the manga and anime can be done at home. There are numerous videos online on YouTube showing how to prepare some of the most popular meals. With season 2 headed to the tv screens in summer season 2016, I can’t contain my appetite. This,I feel, will again be a show to watch. With the conclusion of the Elections and the coming of the Summer Festival Arc I can see some great things coming.

It is the year 2067, we are in a part of the galaxy known as the Brisingr Globular Cluster. In this world that we think is peaceful and cool we meet Freyja Wion, a Windermere from the planet of the same name. We also meet the earthling Hayate Immelmann. If your watching this series its dated years after the past series Macross Frontier, which I haven’t watched sorry lol. I was coming into the series pretty much cold. I just new it was big robots and that the description stated that a conflict with a certain disease is involved. Well the disease is known as VARS. The VARS syndrome causes people to become aggressive and normally multiple people at once. VARS in the beginning just seemed like a series of events that was random. Well we eventually learn that it may not be. In the series a war has now begun between the Windermere’s and the rest of the Cluster. Apparently something happened in the past, Windermere was scared, and they now want to free themselves from what they say is oppression. The series in that way seems like some of the Gundam series like Gundam 00.
The big reason why this series hit me, was due to another huge factor. The VARS syndrome can be controlled by waves in the series called “Fold Waves”. The waves can be generated by certain individuals. In the series there is a child of Windermere origin. This child has fold waves to not only bring about the VARS virus but also control it. Yet the main attraction of the series is the idol group Walker. The group is comprised of five girls, was four but Freyja joins in the beginning of the series, who have fold waves that when they come together quell the VARS syndrome. The main thing that had me writing about the series is that it gave the idol genre a different spin. When beginning the series I assumed it would just be weekly concerts and idol drama. Its why i never get into idol series. There are many tropes I just can’t understand. But Macross Delta is different. The series has a huge political background, with the Windermere planet feeling that they were treated unjustly. Walker also fights their own battle on the frontline. The Delta Squadron, which Hayate joins, act as part of the show doing aerials but also as members of the Galaxies army. Growing up as a military brat, I loved the air shows when i was younger so seeing them was pretty cool. Another thing thats something about this series is the production value. The series is produced by Satelight(Noein, Fairy Tail, other Macross Series, and Log Horizon), also directed by Kenji Yasuda(Noein and Arata:The Legend) written by Toshiba Nemoto(Log Horizon and Tokyo Majin). The care they took has been amazing. Currently i’m into both the stories, which have a hint of mystery like why did Freyja leave Windermere when she clearly loves it and they have started to hint something about Hayate’s father. The songs are also infectious. I plan on continuing watching. This maybe one of my fav anime of this current season. I am curious if the series will run more than 13 episodes due to spring season ending soon and summer season coming. If it runs more then 13 eps i’ll be excited. If it only runs the minimum then i’ll be looking forward to a second season, i’m sure it’ll have one. Its a series that doesn’t stick to the mech genre or idol genre. Here’s hoping it sticks thru what it looks like its promising.
This article includes the snippet of fighting along with music to show more about the series.

Would sharing our pain stop war? Would you understand those around you better if you knew the pain that a person is going through?
This is the premise of Kiznaiver. The series is about a group of high school teens in the fictional city of Sugomori City. Here is where an experiment to create an understanding of human beings takes place. The Kiznaiver system is a system where individuals are made to feel each other’s pain as it is evenly distributed. So imagine that horrible stub toe moment being felt by all of your friends or that paper cut. That may seem small but in the series this is taken thru numerous different scenarios. The characters, one of which is Agato Katsuhira who has no sensation of pain, are placed in this system that is supposed to eventually and hopefully alleviate wars. Those that feel the pain and are a part of the system are Kiznaivers. Stating that if we all understood each other’s pain then we would all know where each other comes from and hopefully we would come to an understanding. The series is brought to us by some who brought us Rage of Bahamut and one of the episode directors of Kill La Kll. I’m just starting to get into the series as of this writing episode 7 has just been released and I’m binge watching from episode 4. Hopefully on the next podcast episode I’ll have a more conclusive thought. The series is supposed to run 12 episodes, so it is one of the shorter series of this season. I’d say give it a watch if you want something scifi but also something with a deeper meaning. It’s produced by Trigger(Kill La Kill, Little Witch Academia, and Black Dynamite) and by Aniplex (Fullmetal Alchemist, Persona 4, Bleach, and Guilty Crown) it is currently being streamed on Crunchyroll. Check out the episodes and let me know what you think. I’m intrigued but I’ll hold my opinion til the end. Hey, guess I’ll keep sharing the pain with all of you.

Space Dandy- OK, so I know the top spot is a day late (stop there cause I ain’t going that far). But i thought you at least need to be 3 episodes in. I loved the premier, which in itself was history making. This show has everything that we need to kick the year off right. Since it started so strong lets hope it continues that way. The reason it was history making, is that the show kicked off simultaneously world wide at the same time in English and Japanese. This has never happened before. The show debuted Saturday January 4th, 2014 at 11:30pm in the US on Adult Swim’s Toonami. The show is brought to us in the US by Funimation. The show is produced by Bones, the same studio that brought us Darker than Black, Soul Eaterm and countless others.. Now the series had major hype coming into it mainly because the creators created shows like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Fullmetal Alchemist. The director of the series is famed anime director Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop fame.
So that tells you about the creation of the series, how about we tell you ABOUT the series. The show follows the main character of Dandy. Dandy is a space explorer looking to make fame or rich finding unknown species in space (we never really know cause things get out of hand on a regular). Dandy does have a partner, QT. QT is a robot partner that at the beginning of the series has been traveling with for some time. There’s a huge amount of fan service and meta commentary in this show. From QT saying his operating system is a few releases behind to the teleporter literally taking a full commercial break to be used(it was a full 5 minute running gang). The first episode throws us for a huge loop but that loop makes the show worth it. I will say many people are making comparisons to Cowboy Bebop, which I think are slightly unfair. The series is hilarious and Dandy is slightly moronic, but very cool. I’ve posted the first 2 episodes here and as of the posting of this article episode 3 should be on Funimation’s website soon. Check it out and let me know exactly what you think. This joins my Ones to Watch List. Is it on yours?

D-Fragments or D-Frag- So finally we get to the runner up position. I chose today to mark the top 2 for certain reasons, each one being a different reason. This anime because I think today on Selfie Sunday a laugh is needed. This anime is hilarious. When I watch anime I normally watch my favorites last. I line them all up and decide in which order do I like them and the ones that I enjoy beginning to end are the last to watch (in case I need a pick me up after some bad anime). This is one of the few comedies I treat that way. Its about a delinquent who transfers into a new school. He brings with him his two best friends since childhood. First thing that was funny, his gang is called Kazama’s Party (that’s not the funny part), the funny part is everyone knows his best friends and all the trouble they’ve caused in detail but can’t place him, Kenji Kazama, the leader. Most delinquents in anime at least can be placed by reputation, not him. While getting an idea about him we meet the “Game Creation Club”, who are having a dilemma about adding an other member or the club is over. Yup, I’m sure you can see where this is headed. Hilarity ensues with the club dragging him in and every meta moment you can think of. These girls actually pull down the shades in a room and say I’m a “dark type”. I literally burst out laughing. I’ve posted the first episode here. ts something you have to see. With a class president whose as bad as he is, a club who pretty much manipulate the situations, and a best friend who is apart of his gang and is Vice President of the school yet we don’t know why he took the job. I find this show one of my Ones to Watch. Check out episode one. Its simulcast each Monday on Funimation’s website

3.Z/X Ignition- One day a great calamity has come to the world. “Black Points” have appeared and out of them creatures from other “points” and worlds have appeared. They have devastated the world. This is the information we are given at the beginning of the series. I was on the fence about trying this particular show because in its description it blatantly mentions cards. Which can be good or bad. The first episode literally drops you into the action. Fighting begins, armies, and fights. This series doesn’t pull punches with the action either. Also, the animation is well done. The series is based off of a game and the animation stays pretty close to the game animation. We are alluded to various characters that haven’t been introduced yet and also of other worlds that we have not seen. The cards hat are mentioned are to house and contain the “Zillions of Enemy X” aka Z/X. They fight along with the humans for supremacy. I’m curious why,if they had devastated this earth when they appeared, are they working with humans. I’m sure the story will state this at some point. But I am enjoying the first two episodes and I anticipate liking the rest of the series.
