Black History Month: The Falcon aka the New Captain America (Had to Say It)

TheFalcon

So I thought to myself that I would do a little summary and checklist for characters of African American descent on the site. The profiles would of course be heroes and villains. Also I’ll keep the profiles up even after this month so to cover as many heroes and villains of every nationality that I can.

So Starting off we got the worlds new friend, Sam Wilson. Sam Wilson, the hero known as Falcon, has come into light within the world thanks to Captain America: Winter Soldier. The part played by Anthony Mackie was amazing. Yet, this was not the characters true beginning. The character would debut in Captain America issue 117,1979 . In this issue his origin would be told along with placing him with the character that he would become synonymous with over the years. His first adventure would even feature the Red Skull, solidifying him as a character to watch. Over the years, thanks to Captain America, Civil War, The Avengers and numerous other books he would be known by comic readers. Recently he debuted in cartoons as an Avenger on Avengers Assemble. Also in these modern times that we have, the character is now Captain America. He appears in Captain America and The Mighty Avengers, Captain America proper, and all Avengers titles. He has grown in stature as a character and the definition of what his creators, Stan Lee and Gene Coolan, created. Below I’ve included links to a recent episode of Avengers, which comes on Disney XD. Also, links to the various places you can learn more about Sam Wilson.

Reasons why I’m loving the first full week of 2015…

AgentCarter2HrPromo

The first thing that has me jumping up and down, the return of Hayley Atwell as the amazing Agent Peggy Carter. When I heard that Agents of SHIELD was gonna take a long hiatus for the winter, i was miffed. But when I heard Marvel and ABC were gonna fill that spot with Agent Carter I was so excited. Bringing us the behind the scenes story of SHIELD’s beginnings with Agent Carter, Howard Stark, and apparently a living Jarvis. I couldn’t be more excited. Besides bringing back the amazing actress who brought this icon to life ( i can say that because without Peggy Carter we wouldn’t have Sharon Carter aka Agent 13), we also have the return of Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark. With a cast being round out by Enver Gjokaj (Dollhouse fam), Chad Michael Murray, and Lyndsy Fonseca (who played a spy on CW’s Nikita). I’m thinking this may be a one time event for us to see Carter and her gang, but I wouldn’t mind a small peek into their world every so often…..SO OVER THE MOON. Are you?

Agent Carter premieres with a 2 hour episode Tuesday Jan 6 at 8pm on ABC

Comic Book Spotlight: Marvel’s Inhumans

Marvel-Inhumans-Movie-Logo-Date

In the last year, if you had the fortunate chance of watching ABC’s Agents of SHIELD and seeing the news around it, you may have heard inclining of a group called the Inhumans. Between the blue alien who was rumored to be Kree, recently this was confirmed. To mysterious writing that now leads to a city. To now Marvel Studios announcing that in 2018 we will be receiving an Inhumans movie. Many fans who are don’t read the comics or may not have been reading them long, may not know why this is a major occurrence. But think of it this way, Marvel Studios can not use the franchise of X-Men yet and the Inhumans would be a great way of filling that space. For all intense purposes the Inhumans are fundamentally mutants. You may debate with me but they kinda are. We wanted to spotlight them because along with all the TV goings on they have, the comics world for them is also getting a lot bigger. They are now in the spotlight in a way they haven’t been in years. It’s time we fill everyone in on who or what they Inhumans are and why you should be into them.

In 1965, the issue of Fantastic Four number 45 was released. This issue written by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby would bring us a name that would become synonymous with a group that would have impact over the Marvel Universe for years to come. The group was known as the Inhumans. The Inhumans are a group of humans advanced by Kree technology. Now one thing I should point out is that this was done centuries before the modern Marvel Universe. Stan and Jack would write a story that would create a race of not only advance biology but also technologically more advance then anyone could imagine. A race that could fight against or with our more well known heroes. Also incorporating many of the cosmic species that they had created like the Kre and Skrull.

The story goes, that during the beginning of the Kree-Skrull war the Kree had set up a base on Saturn. From this base on Saturn they had become aware of primitive humans and noticed that they had a potential for more genetically. They wanted to use these humans to create a soldier to fight for them against the Skrulls. So they took primitive humans from Earth and experimented on them. Successfully creating humans that were advanced in every way. They eventually abandoned this due to a prophecy stating that eventually these beings would pose a threat to the Kree Supreme Intelligence. The Inhumans would survive and create their own society and go through a process called Terrigenesis. The process would cause issues so they would start a selective breeding process, creating a sort of caste system. This was the creation of the Inhumans and the royal family that we would soon be introduced to.

zoe-saldana-chris-pratt-guardians-of-the-galaxy-press-day-02

Tonight we are bringing you the Hollywood Premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy. The film by Marvel Studios, directed by James Gunn. Starring the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Glenn Close, Vinn Diesel, Bradley Cooper and more. The film will hit screens August 1st. Tonight is the grand Hollywood debut. The team of misfits the circumstances brings together, live in the same universe as The Avengers, so of course we are curious how this will impact things. This team is actually my second favorite Marvel team(XMen being first). With StarLord the leader and Gamora the deadliest woman in the universe, i’m sure its gonna be good. Stop by here tonight at 9:30pm ET/6:30pm PT to see all your favs from the film and even fellow fans of the Hollywood persuasion talk about the film and their love of the Guardians.

Breaking Avengers:Age of Ultron casting news!!!

Image

It has been announced by Marvel Studios that Thomas Kretschmann has been cast as an unnamed villain in Age of Ultron. This announcement joins Elizabeth Olsen(Scarlet Witch), Aaron Taylor Johnson(Quiksilver) and the recently announced Michael Douglas for Ant-Man’s Hank Pym. Thomas announcement adds fuel that the Marvel Comics villain Baron Von Strucker is supposed to make an appearance in the movie. Baron Von Strucker is the leader of Hydra. If you have seen Captain America, then you know that Hydra has a huge presence in the Marvel Universe as a whole. The casting seems to be a pretty spot on assessment that he will be playing Baron Von Strucker since they have some similarities. This adds to the numerous casting news coming from Marvel this week. I’m sure no one can wait for the next bit of news. Thomas Kretschmann can currently be seen playing “Van Helsing” on NBC’s Dracula
